よくある間違えやすい英語をわかりやすく説明します。

　

彼はお父さんから相続した多額の財産のおかげで、自分の会社を設立することができました。

⇒ Thanks for the big money he inherited from his father, he was able to establish his own business. ×

　

"big money" は自然な英語の表現ではありません。

不動産の「財産」は "property" とも言いますが、お金の「財産」を考えると "fortune" の方が良いです。

　

「～のおかげで」は "thanks for"　（～をくれてありがとう）ではなく、 "thanks to"　が正しいです。

これで一応誤りのない英文が完成できます。

　

Thanks to the large fortune he inherited from his father, he was able to establish his own business.

　

しかし、ワンランクアップの表現があります。

それは　"enable"（可能にする）という動詞を使うことです。

主語を「多額の財産」にして、「人に～することを可能にさせる」という場合にピッタリです。

作り方は、enable + 人　＋　不定詞です。　

〇〇 enabled him to do ~　（〇〇のおかげで、彼は　～ができるようになった）
