Welcome to Yomiuri Culture Center!

State of the course

We are the largest culture center in the Tokyo metropolitan area, with over 10,000 courses at 17 culture centers located in and around Tokyo.

We offer a wide variety of cultural and educational courses, including traditional Japanese poetry (haiku and tanka), music, dance, sports, arts and crafts and language classes. In total over 60,000 people are enjoying taking our classes.

We have lots of courses to meet the needs and hopes of people who think "I'd like to try something!" or "I want to have fun with friends!" or "I want to find a new me!" We are sure that you will be able to find a course here that is perfect for you. We want to help you realize your dreams and wishes. So why not make a start and try something new today?

How to Join

When you have found a course that you are interested in and would like to try please call or email the center at which you'd like to take a class. If you would like to know more about a class, its content or about taking classes in general, please do not hesitate to ask.

You can observe classes for free (for about 20 minutes) and you can take a trial lesson (for the cost of one lesson payment).

When you have decided on a course, please make a reservation either through the website or by telephone. We will let you know everything you have to do to take the class.

Membership

When you have found a course that you are interested in and would like to try please call or email the center at which you'd like to take a class. If you would like to know more about a class, its content or about taking classes in general, please do not hesitate to ask.

Enrolling in Courses

You payment in one of the following ways.

Pay at the Center Reception

When you first wish to sign up for a class, you may make payments in cash or by credit card*.

Pay at a Convenience Store

Alternatively , you may pay for classes at most centers at a convenience store.*
We will send you a payment slip through the mail. Upon receiving the payment slip, please pay at a convenience store within one week.
* Kawagoe Centers cannot accept convenience store payments.

  • Please note that you will also need to pay the transaction fees. Thank you in advance for your understanding.
  • Should you wish to continue to take a course for 2 or more terms you will be asked to pay by direct bank transfer.
  • At Kawagoe Center, should you wish to continue a course for another term, you will likewise be asked to pay at the center's reception counter.

Starting Classes

  • With the exception of classes that are already full, and some other special classes, you may join ongoing classes at any time. You will be charged for the remainder of the classes (not the full term payment) for that term.
  • When a class reaches the maximum number of students, no further students will be permitted to join the class. Students wishing to join the class may put their names on a "waiting for a cancelation" list.
  • In addition to student fees, there may also be fees for equipment maintenance costs, class materials and textbooks, and insurance, depending on the course.
  • There is a limited number of classes in which it is not possible to observe the class or take trial lessons. Please contact us for details.
